D is for Dream Extreme Writing Spaces

Just for fun, let’s say you had an entire week to go write somewhere, while the rest of the world had time frozen. Your loved ones wouldn’t miss you since it only felt like you were gone for one second (and it would feel to you like you were gone from them for one second). All your responsibilities were frozen, too. Just a week of you, yourself, and your laptop. Oh, and the person who brings you yummy food on a regular basis. And heck, let’s throw in a masseuse.

Where would you go? Choose in this very highly scientific poll of where you would most like to spend your writing hiatus. (If you’re in a reader, click through to the poll.)

*Think Abe Lincoln’s lap, on top of that flat stone in Stonehenge, on the Sphinx’s head in Egypton one of the towers on the Great Wall of China, in the Colosseum in Rome, in the Statue of Liberty’s torch, on one of the heads on Easter Island. You know– things like that.
**Where you can go from desk to desk to couch to bed to comfy chair to fluffy rug to a huge pile of pillows, or take a break to be inspired by a movie on thirty big screens in the tv department.

Now tell us why!

Oh, I so wish I could have this space to write. I chose the beach mostly because it is cold and rainy here. I might sleep the first day or so, but then I'd totally write!

Can I choose none of the above? Right now, sitting outside of a cafe somewhere in Europe is really appealing. I would have the city and its inhabitants for inspiration, a table underneath a striped awning all to myself, and an endless supply of pastries. :)

All of the choices are so cool or interesting that I'd probably be too distracted to write :) A week just for writing though--that would be awesome!

I chose the beach, but as much fun as it is to play in the water and walk on the sand, I wonder if I would get anything done?

I've thought about this one before, and I would love to go to a private beach and be able to write while hearing the crashing of the waves against the sand. :)

the beach, for sure.

The mansion would have a fully stocked kitchen, yes?

I crave weird things while I'm writing.

Also I would need one of those one-cup coffee makers at every desk. I assume it would have one of those as well.

If you can make that week really happen, I will go anywhere you send me. I can't hardly imagine 7 minutes of peace, much less 7 days. N.E.E.D. I.T.!

I live at the beach, so as much as I'd love to have chosen it, I think I'd sneak home to do dishes or something! Love the furniture store idea, that would be Ah-mazing!

Somewhere quiet with comfy couches and LOTS of windows...oh, and chocolate. I can't forget chocolate :)

Because I've been on a beach like that!

Hi, Peggy,

First, let me congratulate you on your book coming out next year. That is AMAZING.

I am a new friend, dropping in from the A-Z challenge.

Your header is so you..... Great!

I am such the water person. I love the beach with white powdery sand. I am currently in Central Florida just a few blocks from the beach and I relish my morning walks along the shoreline.

What a fun poll! I'd definitely do by a river or the mountains, but that's because it feels so homey to me.

Awesome poll. I couldn't decide between the first two. However, I guess I'll have to put up with what I have now.

I've actually gone up to Sundance to write. The only problem is the lighting. I could hardly seen my laptop screen. =D

You probably would've guessed the beach for me right? Since you know where I am right nizzow!

Definitely somewhere peaceful like a mountain by a lake. I think the other options would be too distracting for me.

I'd pick a beach, but I think I might get distracted. It would also be nice to have someone deliver cocktails. =]

I chose the lake - in fact the lake and cabin featured in Love,Actually where Colin Firth goes to write would be perfect!

...Ugh! I can't even write in dream scenarios. Hans (the masseuse) distracted me! ;)

Ok, so I picked the first one b/c it was closest.

I'd like to rent a cottage at the beach, in between any towns. But, it would be a NW beach, and not a tropical one, where I could open the door and listen to the ocean, but still retain the misty romance of the cold morning fog, enjoying the fireplace in the evenings but still warm enough to walk in the sand in the afternoon.

What Jo said. A beach house, for sure, but not a tropical, powdery one. One in a northern climate with enormous trees and rocky, craggy shores where the waves crash. Waves are mood music.

Such an awesome question! I love to get away and write. Wish I could do it all the time.

I vote mansion because I could find a quiet place to be alone and write, all undistracted-like.

Mountain lake, with a magic laptop that never dies and has connection to the Internet, for research of course.

I guess I'm with the majority. Nature inspires me. So does quiet. ;0)

I can't really remember what vacation is like. I've not been on one in years. That's depressing, but I'd love to go to the beach with baby soft sand and take a book to read with my feet in the water. It sounds so relaxing!

I'm going for the secluded cabin by a lake or river. I love nature. LOVE. And I love being in the mountains. My fave! For some reason, it all seems to come together there. :)

Furniture store... I'm always writing in bed or on my couch. A beautiful setting would more likely distract me then help me get into the story any better.

And I've always wondered if those really expensive chairs are worth the money.

secluded cabin - so I can devise the best way to spend the millions I just won in the lottery ;)

So I'm one of the ones that chose to do the furniture store. Because in all honesty, any of the places would be a lot of fun to spend some uninterrupted time writing. Because of that I took the most unusual -- the furniture store because how cool would it be to have a bunch of fun furniture to move around and play with while you write?

I picked number 1 and then saw Mara's comment - i want to got there!!!

I picked the beach. Love the tropics and being out in the sun. With the ocean lulling me to sleep.

Sarah Tokeley said...

A cosy cabin with the rain lashing down outside would be wonderful :-)

Laying sprawled on the warm beach with a horde of notebooks (sand might get in the laptop - I'd keep that up at the beach house) - that sounds heavenly right about now. Then you could go stand in the ocean whenever you got stuck or needed a break...

Funny, a few years back I would have voted for the beach. But after living in the hot Hawaiian sun for eight years it get's a little old. Right now a nice seclude cabin sounds great!
